Salem “Hawi” Wako, MA, TMLP

I have been working in the field since 2019. I believe that when people are shown empathy, genuineness, and unconditional positive regard, they are more likely to accept and actively participate in the therapeutic process. This is why I create a safe and welcoming environment so that my clients and I can collaboratively discuss and work toward established goals. I recognize the impact of past lived experiences, and because of this, I work hard to help my clients gain self-awareness of the past.

I earned my master’s in counseling psychology from Western Michigan University (WMU) and am currently enrolled in WMU’s Counseling Psychology doctoral program. I have worked with people across the lifespan in a variety of settings. My more recent experience has been with children from racially and ethnically diverse populations. My specialty areas include immigration & acculturation stress, anxiety, depression, transitions, and relationship issues. My private practice includes work with individuals, children, adolescents, and ethnically diverse groups.

I am a Temporary Master’s Limited Psychologist (TMLP) in the state of Michigan. As a TMLP, I receive ongoing supervision from a fully licensed psychologist, Julie Meredith Davis, Ph.D., LP.

To schedule an appointment, please call the main office at 269-459-1818. Please know that I am currently doing both in-person and telehealth therapy.
