…And the day came when the risk to remain tight in a bud was more painful than the risk it took to blossom. ~ Anais Nin
The quotation above is my favorite, as it speaks to the importance of taking risks to create a fulfilling life. To me, this speaks to the heart of psychology. We are, by nature, inclined to create and seek meaningful connections. However, sometimes our historical experiences keep us from fulfilling this nature. Sometimes our trauma, fear, anxiety, depression, or relational difficulty can keep us from taking the risks to create the changes we want and deserve in our lives. This is why I strive to create a safe and empathic environment so that each of my clients feels comfortable and confident in sharing honestly so that they can more effectively work toward balance, clarity, and trust.
My education, training, and experience emphasize the multiple facets of human development and identity: physical development, intellectual development, social development, cultural influence, and relational influence. I have had specialized training in treating trauma, stress, anxiety, depression, mood disorders, perfectionism, personality disorders, and relational difficulties. Using a holistic approach to therapy, I recognize that historical and social contexts, familial relations, emotional and cognitive development, and cultural factors have shaped the way clients see the world and their experiences. My private practice includes work with individuals, couples, adolescents, young adults, adults, older adults, minorities, and LGBTQ+.
I am a fully licensed psychologist in the state of Michigan, which means I can perform intellectual and psychological testing, as well as diagnose and treat mental disorders. I am also a participating member of PsyPact, which allows me to provide services in several other states. I earned my doctorate in Counseling Psychology from Western Michigan University in 2009.
