Colleen Thebert-Wright, Ph.D., LP

I have been helping individuals work through their life challenges and transitions for more than 35 years. I believe presenting concerns often have their roots in family-of-origin patterns, “the emotional school” where we learn about ourselves and our relationships.

I work to provide a place of hope, safety and empathic understanding which allows trust to develop, making the deep work of therapy possible. I also believe individuals are “the expert” of their experiences, and by “becoming the student” of each client, I strive to facilitate the development of a dynamic partnership.

The influences of age, culture, education, and gender, as well as historical, racial, relational, and social experiences have significant impact on perception of self, others, and the world. Knowing this, I attempt to view the world through the eyes of my clients to understand their experiences and the unique meaning those experiences hold.

I have specialized training in treating anxiety, attachment disorders, depression, grief and loss, infertility, pregnancy loss and neonatal death, and sexual abuse. I have particular interest in medically related presenting concerns, somatic disorders, women’s’ issues, and life transitions involving recreation of the self.

I use a developmental, psychodynamic, and holistic approach in my work with individuals, couples, young and older adults, and LBGTQ+.

I earned my Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology from Western Michigan University in 2002. I am a fully licensed psychologist in the state of Michigan and, as such, am qualified to perform intellectual and psychological testing to diagnose and treat mental disorders.
