Trauma, Grief, and Loss
“You may encounter many defeats, but you must not be defeated. In fact, it may be necessary to encounter the defeats, so you can know who you are, what you can rise from, how you can still come out of it.”– Maya Angelou
Trauma can take many forms (e.g., physical, emotional, sexual). It can also be the result of natural (hurricane, tornado, etc.) or manmade (terrorism, nuclear, etc.) events. Whatever the situation, the results can be devastating. Whatever the cause of your trauma and whether it happened years ago or yesterday, you can make healing changes and move forward with your life. Through therapy, self-care and more, there is a path forward towards healing.
Because the spectrum of what can generate a traumatic response is quite wide, the process of healing can look different for everyone. The therapists at Meredith Psychological & Testing Services, LLC aim to support children and adults at times of individual or widespread crisis. We come from a multicultural perspective which underscores ethnic, cultural, and linguistic diversity as assets to healing and highlights the ways in which trauma and healing are experienced collectively. In doing so, we hope to strengthen individual and collective resilience while helping clients mitigate risk for long-term negative outcomes. We treat those exposed to trauma as agents in creating their own well-being, rather than victims of traumatic events.
