Medical Concerns
“You have power over your mind – not outside events. Realize this, and you will find strength.” ~ Marcus Aurelius
Sometimes a medical issue can bring on severe emotional distress. Medical conditions can also interfere with how we typically cope with things (e.g., exercise, socializing, writing). Therapy can be an integral part of treatment, providing necessary emotional support during a difficult time. In truth, psychotherapy is a vital part of a holistic treatment approach. Research indicates some physical illness (e.g., chronic pain, heart disease, high blood pressure, insomnia, GI issues) may improve when stress-reduction techniques and mental health care are a part of the overall treatment process.
The therapists at Meredith Psychological & Testing Services, LLC are here to help provide you the space you need to process your medical concerns, as well as work with you to develop a tailored coping action plan for preventing and/or managing identified stressful reactions to your medical concerns. We believe that while your medical condition may persist and, perhaps, even be physically debilitating at times, your condition does not have to define who you are. That is, even in the midst of your medical concern, it is possible to have a sense of acceptance and peace.
