Matthew Pettinga, MA, LPC

Matt has been working as a counseling professional for the last 4 years in both the inpatient and outpatient settings. From his time working as an inpatient counselor, he has had extensive experience working with people in crisis. Since leaving the inpatient setting in 2017, Matt has been working in private practice. Matt views therapy as a relationship building process and, as such, provides individuals opportunities to invest in their own wellbeing. Matt provides a calming and safe environment for individuals to examine and explore difficult and challenging life issues. In therapy, Matt collaborates with his clients to formulate a plan to improve mental wellness, which includes the use of talking, brainstorming, and reflection.

Matt earned his master’s degree in Counseling Psychology from Western Michigan University. He specializes in working with clients struggling with anxiety, depression, and adjustment issues. He tailors sessions to the unique needs of clients, yet tends to utilize person-centered and cognitive behavior therapy (CBT). Matt has worked with clients of diverse gender, age, ethnicity, social background, economic background, and degree of impairment. He also has experience working with individuals, couples, and families.
