Maime Butler, MA, TLLP

Mai has been helping individuals work through life challenges since 2013. She does this by actively creating a safe and empathic environment where both she and the client can build a strong working relationship. Mai understands that past experiences can control present actions, which is why she works hard to help the client to gain self-awareness.

Mai’s education and training emphasize developmental, social, and relational aspects. Mai has experience working with diversity of multiple levels. She has worked with children, youth, college students, and adults. She works with individuals dealing with trauma, depression, anxiety, bipolar, and personality disorders. Mai works with individuals from all racial and ethnic backgrounds but has a special interest in helping racial/ethnic minorities (Black, Latinx, Asian, Native) work through race-related stress (i.e., personal, systemic, institutional racism and discrimination) and identity concerns. Mai also works with sexual identity (LGBTQ+) and gender identity-related concerns (questioning, trans, Gender non-conforming). She approaches therapy from a multicultural mindset, recognizing the importance of how culture can impact relationships, including the various emotional issues and stresses that such relationship dynamics might create.

Mai earned her Master’s in Counseling Psychology in 2013 and is currently enrolled in the doctorate in counseling psychology program at Western Michigan University.

Mai is a Temporary Limited Licensed Psychologist (TLLP) in the state of Michigan. As an TLLP, she is under the direct supervision of Julie M. Davis, PhD, LP.
